Choosing a reputable paving company is crucial when investing in a new driveway. There are several steps and questions to consider to ensure you hire a company that will deliver quality service.
To begin, you can:

- Contact local asphalt plants for recommended companies and request 2-3 names.
- Thoroughly review the company’s website to assess its professionalism.
- Trust your instincts after meeting with them for an estimate.
- Avoid choosing the cheapest bid solely based on price.
- Remember the adage, “You get what you pay for.”
When you have scheduled estimates, here are some questions to ask:
- What equipment will be used for excavation?
- How deep will the excavation be, and how much gravel will be brought in?
- What thickness of asphalt will be installed?
- How many tons of asphalt will be used to complete the job?
Companies price jobs based on labor and materials. A significantly lower price may indicate shortcuts in excavation or asphalt usage. Ensure you compare estimates based on similar specifications.
For example, would you prefer to spend $10,000 on a driveway lasting 8-10 years or $14,000 on one lasting 20-30 years?
The choice of excavation equipment is crucial. Skid steers are unsuitable for deep excavation; backhoes or excavators are more appropriate.
At Accurate Asphalt Paving, we use a Kubota KX080 excavator for digging and removing soil, rocks, boulders, and stumps.
We never compromise on gravel thickness. For a 12″ excavation, we bring in 10-12″ of gravel, depending on the grades, and leaving space for new asphalt.
Similarly, we do not skimp on asphalt. If we quote 3″ compacted thickness, you will receive 3″ compacted thickness.
